Additionally, reading into this the current plan is to have non-compressioned objects in production. What would be the risk of the dread problem of: It runs fast in in dev but not prod? Anyway to account for this? We face a simular issue.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09236179121194021775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-518481768015386858.post-69561351993693787102010-01-09T22:05:52.196-05:002010-01-09T22:05:52.196-05:00Oracle version 11r1Oracle version 11r1Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03309823327597536648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-518481768015386858.post-30402499629010332482010-01-09T21:04:15.108-05:002010-01-09T21:04:15.108-05:00Just out of curiosity Karen, which Oracle version ...Just out of curiosity Karen, which Oracle version are you using?jan van mourikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01002917626652330373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-518481768015386858.post-22745643125713218152009-12-23T10:02:03.583-05:002009-12-23T10:02:03.583-05:00I agree that basic compression has limited usefuln...I agree that basic compression has limited usefulness except in specific cases like this one. But, for what I needed, it was just the ticket. It made me remember that I need to give thought to choosing the right tool for the job. In this case, compression was the perfect tool to do the job I needed.Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03309823327597536648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-518481768015386858.post-9890432282252822542009-12-23T02:55:34.750-05:002009-12-23T02:55:34.750-05:00Table compression in Oracle is an only moderately ...Table compression in Oracle is an only moderately useful feature IMHO. This is only useful in special cases such as yours where the table is not updated after an initial load. And, of course, performance figures you might have drawn from that compressed table may be quite different than for the real thing. (In case someone wonders: index compression is a totally different story though.)roberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01724179181550310220noreply@blogger.com
